Sprint Launches Sanyo M1

sanyo_m1.jpg

"Sprint has launched another music phone, the Sanyo M1. While the recent trend has been to launch music oriented handsets with limited memory (relying instead on a memory card slot and user upgrades), the M1 sports an impressive 1GB of internal memory. That's the most internal memory of any phone on a national carrier, but there is no expansion slot. At 23mm thick (.9"), the phone is a bit chunky when compared to other recent music phones..."

Review: Sprint Samsung A920 with Power Vision Service

"...The Samsung A920 has great technical strengths and the service is working very nicely on it. It has a few weaknesses but comes at a somewhat affordable price. Sanyo 6600 to be Released by Spring

sprint_sanyo_6600-katana

"While the blurry shots we saw a couple of months ago let us know the general idea of Sprint's rumored 6600 "Katana" phone from Sanyo, we're happy to report that the real deal is looking like quite the hottie, and should be appealing to squeamish mobile users who can't quite handle the naming direction Moto is taking their slim line. Unfortunately, the Katana doesn't really expand upon the aging feature set of its RAZR rival, with a mere VGA camera, Bluetooth and conspicuously absent EV-DO....

Review: Sprint PCS Vision Phone SCP-3100

sprint_sanyo_scp3100

"Sanyo's SCP-3100 for Sprint (known officially as the Sprint PCS Vision Phone SCP-3100 by Sanyo) carries on the company's reputation for spectacular voice quality. Unfortunately, its mediocre feature set and truly hideous case design require me to recommend other phones in Sprint's midrange.

There's no polite way to say it: This is a very, very ugly phone. The black-and-white, text-only external screen lights up a garish orange color; the keypad lights, meanwhile, are a clashing green. The 128-by-160 main color screen seems a bit washed out. The front of the phone looks as if it has gills, and the plastic back has a definite Fisher-Price feel to it. Sanyo doesn't make beautiful phones, but this one takes the cake. Comparing it to LG's elegant PM-225 or Motorola's C290 makes the deficiency of its design even more striking.....

Review: PPC-6700

Sprint_ppc-6700-3

"This is a decent phone for business users but I was honestly hoping for more. The PPC-6700 seems sluggish and frankly a bit thick. It's a nice device for a first version but I'm definitely hoping for more in a followup device. If you can afford the $449 price tag, it's worth a try for Pocket PC lovers. Those of you who are used to using a Treo or Blackberry will be disappointed...

Review: Samsung A920 with Sprint TV

samsung_A920

...Bottom line: Sprint is really making bold moves into the TV arena and I have to say that paired with the video phone, music service, games, stereo speakers, and all the other many bells and whistles, the phone is amazing and the service options seem endless. Only con for me is not having the service be quad band because I travel a lot internationally, but if that’s not an issue for you - this is one sleek looking phone with a lot going on under the hood.

Review: Sprint Power Vision Phone MM-7500 by Sanyo

Sanyo_MM7500

The Sprint Power Vision MM-7500 by Sanyo ($329.99; $279.99 and up with contract), a reliable phone for voice calling and Sprint's multimedia services, is sure to attract fans with its "rugged" design and built-in GPS capability. But overall, Sprint has better offerings at the same price.

At 3.4 by 1.9 by 1.1 inches and 4 ounces, the black flip phone is chunky but not particularly heavy. It has a removable colored panel than can add a blue, red, or silver accent. The outside has a little 96-by-64 color screen, a big single speaker, and a megapixel camera with a macro switch. Open the flip, and you'll find a bright, sharp, 176-by-220 screen and a keyboard of small, clearly labeled rectangular buttons.

"Rugged" here doesn't mean this phone is tough like a Nextel i355. What the MM-7500 has are rubber bumpers to help it survive drops without scuffing. (Our review unit lived through several drops from about four feet onto both wooden and hard office floors.)

Sprint Nextel BlackBerry 7100i Review

RIM Blackberry 7100i

Since the first Palm Pilot came out, I’ve been drooling over ways to take all my information with me and be able to connect to other people via the same device. No, the first Palms and other PDAs were woefully deficient in their ability to keep me in touch. But then came the BlackBerry.

Let’s skim over the original clunky RIM (Research In Motion) brand BlackBerrys that were standalone devices using a sparse communications backbone for email and text messaging. Then let’s gun the engine forward to today as I sit holding a brand new, NEXTEL-branded BlackBerry 7100i.

New Sprint-Sanyo offering scores high

Sanyo MM-9000

With all the new high-tech phones hitting the market, there are a few simple tests to gauge whether buying one makes sense.

Does it operate on a first-rate network?

Does it offer the kind of services that have led you to shop for a new phone in the first place?

Is it easy enough to use that you won’t feel like you’re hauling around a mini-PC when most of the time you only want to check in to see if you need to pick up any groceries on the way home from work?

The new MM-9000, made by Sanyo and sold by Sprint, meets all three.

The Sprint network is one of the better ones serving Eastern Massachusetts. Dead spots are few and far between. And in some areas where other services often collapse, the MM-9000 found a high quality signal.

On the high-tech goodie front, the Sanyo offers lots of the features phone-buyers now look for.

Cingular and Motorola brings Scrolling News on the Motorola V557

Motorola V557

Push technology is increasingly becoming popular amongst mobile and internet users. Instead of manually trying to get the information, we prefer to receive it automatically. And to add to this convenience, Cingular in collaboration with Motorola would soon introduce a service, which would bring an always-on data service that will send scrolling text and images to the bottom of cell phone screens.

Cingular would be marketing this service under the brand name: ‘Live Ticker’. However, the feature would be for now compatible with only a brand new phone being developed by Motorola. Cingular believes that this is just another extension of their wireless portal. The mobile screen would now guide mobile phone users to entertainment and products.

Sprint Nextel to counter Razr with Samsung's Blade

Samsung A900

RESTON, Va.-Sprint Nextel Corp. plans to take a swipe at the success of Motorola Inc.'s super-slim Razr device by selling a similar slender gadget from rival Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. Nicknamed the Blade, the Samsung A900 supports CDMA2000 1x EV-DO technology and features a thin clamshell design similar to Motorola's popular Razr.
Sprint Nextel's Len Lauer discussed the carrier's plans to sell the device during a recent investor conference, according to reports. Officials from Sprint Nextel and Samsung were not immediately available to provide details on the device, including when it would be available and how much it would cost.

Sprint has high hopes for new services

Chief Operating Officer Len Lauer of Sprint Nextel Corp. said Thursday that he expects as many as 40 percent of the company's customers to use new services to listen to music or watch TV shows on their phones.

About 10 percent of the Reston, Va.-based company's 45.6 million subscribers will sign up for services during the next six months, Lauer said in an interview in New York. That proportion will eventually reach 30 percent to 40 percent, he said.

Sprint is trying to take clients from Verizon Wireless and Cingular Wireless, and get existing customers to spend more money. Lauer, who was in New York to promote the music and video download services, said the products will begin to add to revenue over the next year or two.

"It's a very strategic move for us and allows us to compete with Verizon and SBC," Lauer said...

Sprint Nextel Launches Push-to-Picture Service

Banking on the success of push-to-talk mobile phone services, Sprint Nextel on Monday announced a walkie-talkie service for sharing photographs.

ADVERTISEMENT Nextel Direct Send Picture lets customers send a picture to a person on the other end of a Nextel Walkie-Talkie call, without interrupting the call itself. The picture simultaneously appears on both the user's and recipient's phones during the call, and they can both view and discuss it.

"If you're in business, construction or real estate, you would take a picture of the property that you were trying to sell, and share that information with [recipients] so they can get a picture of what you're talking about," said Beverly Hodges, director of instant communication services at Sprint in Reston, Va.

Direct Send Picture is available immediately on the Motorola i870 phone, and will be included on all future Nextel phones, Hodges said. Software upgrades to enable Direct Send Picture will be available by the end of the year for several Nextel phone models, including the Motorola i850, i760, i560, i355 and i275....

Sprint Launches the Latest Innovation for Nextel Walkie-Talkie Services - Nextel Direct Send(SM) Picture

Sprint (NYSE: S) today announced the availability of Nextel Direct Send(SM) Picture, a first-of-its-kind service that allows Nextel subscribers with capable Nextel phones the ability to send and review a picture quickly and easily, all while on a Nextel Walkie-Talkie call. The picture simultaneously appears on both the user's and recipient's phones during the call - so they can both view and discuss it without changing between voice and data services. This capability builds upon the Direct Send service launched last year that utilizes the Nextel Walkie-Talkie button to send contact information and transfer the data into another subscriber's contact list.

Nextel Direct Send Picture is ideal for those who communicate frequently about site observations and events taking place in real time. For example, realtors could use it to review and discuss a new property on the market with a client. Insurance adjustors assessing damage claims also would find the service valuable as they instantly communicate on-site information to their home office and customers, all using Walkie-Talkie capability.

"With the launch of Nextel Direct Send Picture, Sprint further expands the benefits of the Nextel Walkie-Talkie portfolio by offering enhanced services that move beyond traditional capabilities," said Rena Bhattacharyya, IDC. "Sprint continues to maintain its leadership and build upon its expertise in the push to communicate arena, leveraging an innovative portfolio with an understanding of business telecommunication requirements."

"While sending pictures between mobile phones has been possible for quite some time, Direct Send Picture is unique in the marketplace because it allows customers to look at and discuss an image at the same time," said Tony Krueck, vice president, product development and management, for Sprint. "This kind of simple and efficient communication that is the hallmark of Nextel Walkie-Talkie services is of extreme value to our customers, especially those in the construction, insurance, real estate and public safety sectors."

Using Direct Send to transmit a picture is easy if you have a capable Nextel phone, and involves just a few simple steps. While in a Walkie-Talkie call, a user can take a picture and send it, or select one already saved onto the handset. As part of a special introductory offer, customers will be able to use the Direct Send Picture service free of charge until Feb. 28, 2006. Following the promotional period, users will be charged a per-image fee of $0.25 for images sent and received. Nextel Walkie-Talkie usage may apply to the period of the call before and after the image is transmitted, depending on a customer's rate plan...
