NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries today announced 14 new 3G FOMA™ handsets-the 903i series, SIMPURE™ series and N902iL.

All 11 new 903i handsets provide a wide range of entertainment functions. They are equipped for DoCoMo's Chaku-Uta Full® full-track music-downloading service. Five models can play tracks transferred from PCs that were used to download music from sites such as Napster™ Japan, which offers unlimited access to approximately 1.5 million downloadable tracks for a flat rate. HSDPA-capable models work with the Music Channel™ service, which enables up to two music programs to be downloaded automatically during the night, and the expanded i-motion™ video clip for downloading up to 10MB files. All models are compatible with Mega i-appli rich applications, and some are also equipped for "One-segment" digital terrestrial broadcasting.

"Japan's DoCoMo has announced that it has developed the third-generation (3G) FOMA SIMPURE series of basic and compact handsets for people who do not require highly sophisticated functions. The series has two models, SIMPURE L, supplied by LG Electronics, is equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera despite its compact size and SIMPURE N, supplied by NEC, is the smallest (as of March 6, 2006) of all 3G FOMA handsets at 92 x 44 x 19.2 mm....

NTT DoCoMo and its eight regional subsidiaries announced today that they will start selling the 3G FOMA NM850iG handset, which works on DoCoMo's 3G FOMA network in Japan and W-CDMA, GSM and GPRS networks overseas where DoCoMo's global roaming services are available, beginning February 24, 2006.

Application to DoCoMo's WORLD WING 3G roaming service is required to use the handset overseas for voice calls, i-mode, videophone and short messaging service (SMS), the company said.

The handset connects wirelessly with Bluetooth devices, including PCs for data synchronisation and connection to the internet.

Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo and its eight regional subsidiaries announced today that they have developed a child-friendly 3G mobile phone, the Foma SA800i, as well as the ‘Imadoco Search’ location service. The handset is designed to fit a child’s hand and can be programmed with up to five phone numbers that the child may call using a direct call button. 'Imadoco Search' enables parents to monitor a child's location via mobile phone.

The SA800i is primarily designed to help keep children safe, the company said. The handset features a 100-decibel alarm that children can switch on in case of an emergency. When the alarm is activated, the handset will call up to three pre-programmed numbers with a voice message alert at regular intervals until either all numbers answer the call or a password is entered on the child’s handset.

With the ‘Imadoco Search’ (imadoco is Japanese for ‘Where are you now?’) location service, parents can set their phones to automatically receive e-mails announcing their child’s location. They can also choose to receive an e-mail when the child’s handset is turned off; the child’s location can still be monitored after the handset is turned off. The service costs 210 yen (about €1.5) per month for up to five children, plus an addition 5.2 yen (€0.04) for each location search...
